Khmer Green Charcoal Co., Ltd., OTAGO’s char-briquettes factory in Cambodia, was awarded ISO 9001:2015 certification for Quality Management
During the recent Covid-19 pandemic, which determined an inevitable slow-down in business and international projects, OTAGO’s management decided to invest the available time and resources on internal improvements. One of the goals was to be recognized globally as the company that redefines the standards of quality and service in the char-briquettes industry, thus achieving ISO 9001-2015 certification for its char-briquettes factory in Cambodia – Khmer Green Charcoal Co., Ltd. (KGC).
“We moved towards ISO certification because we strive to be the benchmark for the char-briquettes industry. Saying that your company provides quality products is one thing, but we wanted to prove it. Our stakeholders deserve this assurance and our commitment to continuous improvement,” said Ms. Phalla Seang, Business Development Manager of KGC.
The ISO 9001 accreditation is one of the most rigorous and recognized standards in the world, dedicated to Quality Management Systems (QMS). It outlines a framework for organizations aiming to provide products and services that consistently meet the requirements and expectations of customers and other relevant stakeholders. The standard is based on several quality management principles, including having a strong customer focus, involvement of high-level company management, an outlined process-based approach and ongoing improvement.
“A product is only as good as the quality system and the team behind it” Phalla added, “and the ISO 9001:2015 certification is a confirmation of our demonstrated and ongoing commitment to quality assurance, reliability and safety”.
The process for certification took KGC over 2 years, and began with the design and implementation of the QMS.
“First of all, let me say how grateful and proud I am of the team. Implementing ISO 9001:2015 standard is more than writing the documents and putting the procedures in place, it’s about corporate culture, ideologies and having a genuine commitment to improvement, both individually and as a team,” said Francesco Carocci, COO of OTAGO.
In June 2022 KGC completed the certification audit with zero nonconformities and in August 2022 it finally received the official ISO 9001:2015 certification.
“We are very excited about this certification and I feel it’s a reflection of the work that OTAGO has been doing for the past 10 years,” said Carlo Figà Talamanca, Founder and CEO of OTAGO. “We recognized early in the development of our business the importance of a rigorous engineering approach and of professionalism in all aspects of our operation, especially when seeking to have a transformational impact. This certification is a testament to our desire to always perform at the highest levels of quality and efficiency”.
